According to the dictionary Purpose is:
noun the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc., an intended or desired result; end; aim; goal, determination; resoluteness.
In the book Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren says only the creator of something can tell you it’s purpose. Think about all the gadgets and gadgets we have, if someone from 100, 50, or in some cases even just 25 years ago came back they would have no idea what a can opener, television, cellphone even is must less what it’s for. If we weren’t there to explain it, they would have two choices ask the maker or refer to the users manual. The same is true for us, if we are trying to figure out our purpose we have 2 choices, ask the maker or refer to the owner’s manual.
So that being said, if you are trying to figure out, “Why am I here?” Or “What is My Purpose?” You can ask God and read scripture. However God gives us hints and direction as we go through life that will help us figure it out. For me when I hit my fifties and my nest was empty I thought what now? I know I want to live my purpose and leave a legacy, but what was that? As I prayed and read my Bible it just wasn’t coming clear. So I started doing some exercises to help me figure it out. Things like listing all previous jobs, volunteer opportunities, and social events I’ve done and I quickly remembered a specific call from the Lord to speak to, teach, encourage, and inspire women. After that I knew exactly what I was supposed to be doing in this season of my life.

“And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not what I want but what you want.” Matthew 26:3
This verse takes place while Jesus is praying in the garden, the night before his crucifixion. The “cup” is his death on the cross. Jesus knows that His crucifixion is part of the plan, yet He pleads to God to take the cup from Him, yet Jesus will remain obedient to the point of death if that’s what God needs to be done. Jesus knew the purpose God had given Him was greater than Himself and that it was meant for Him specifically.
If we follow Paul’s story in the Bible, we also see that he realized his purpose was greater than himself. Despite his hardships, pain, thorns, and weaknesses, Paul served for a greater purpose until the point of death. Nothing phased Paul, he kept going and enduring. I think this is because he truly believed that everything in his life was meant for a purpose and God would use it.
How would you live your life if you truly believed God had a purpose for every moment?
God, thank you for giving us a purpose that outlasts the ages. Thank you for giving us something to always strive for! I pray that we take the responsibility we have and rid ourselves of any hindrances that surround us. Help us to be unstoppable for your Kingdom
You Are Who You Are for a Reason
You are who you are for a reason;
You’re part of an intricate plan;
You’re a precious and perfect unique design,
Called God’s special woman or man.
You look like you look for a reason.
Our God made no mistake;
He knit you together within the womb;
You’re just what He wanted to make.
The parents you had were the ones He chose,
And no matter how you may feel,
They were custom-designed with God’s plan in mind,
And they bear the Master’s seal.
No, that trauma you faced was not easy,
And God wept that it hurt you so;
But it was allowed to shape your heart
So that into His likeness you’d grow.
You are who you are for a reason,
You’ve been formed by the Master’s rod;
You are who you are, beloved,
Because there is a God!
